Duluth Indivisible
Goes to the Movies!
Tuesday, December 9, 2025
6:30 to 9:00 PM
Zinema One (Zeitgeist) - 222 E. Superior St.
This is the first film of a series on effective organizing. For the kick-off, we will watch historical footage from the 1963 March on Washington and the 2023 movie, “Rustin" about Bayard Rustin one of the key organizers of that march. Stay for a short discussion afterward, if you wish.
Bayard Rustin was the organizing genius (along with A. Philip Randolph) behind the 1963 March on Washington. On August 28, 1963, Rustin, largely supported by a team of volunteers, and with just about three months of preparation, put together a march of over 200,000 people to Washington, D.C. Nine months later, the Civil Rights Act passed. Why (perhaps) have you never heard of Bayard Rustin? His story and participation were suppressed because he was gay.
As we organize our communities for effective action, we can be inspired by and learn from masters of the art.
